WATCH: #PisoParaSaLaptop campaign brings gadgets to students in need
Taking matters into their own hands, many Filipino students have turned to the #PisoParaSaLaptop campaign to ensure they won’t be left behind when schools go online. MovePH takes on the helm with them, raising at least a million to help students during the pandemic.

With access to their education at stake, many Filipino students echoed a simple plea: At least one peso can bring us closer to getting a laptop.

As the Philippines shifted to distance learning in a bid to continue education during the pandemic, Filipino students have taken matters into their own hands to ensure they won’t be left behind. Many have turned to the online campaign #PisoParaSaLaptop to raise funds to buy gadgets before the start of online classes.

Soon enough, social media platforms swarmed with appeals for donations under the #PisoParaSaLaptop campaign, with Facebook recording at least 6,800 posts about this.

Hoping to help, Rappler’s civic engagement arm MovePH took on the campaign in early August and helped amplify the stories of students in need using its wide-reaching platforms.

With the help of generous donors and our partners, we have raised at least P1,074,502.19 and supported more than 70 students as of Thursday, October 1.

More students still need help to adjust to the shift to distance learning. Join the MovePH Facebook group to help other students in need. If you’re an organization leading an initiative to help students adjust to distance learning, send an email to move.ph@rappler.com.
