(UPDATED) Two busses from the same company figure in a collision in Enrique B. Magalona town in Negros Occidental; 46 are injured

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) – At least 4 people were killed when two busses collided along a national highway in Enrique B. Magalona town in Negros Occidental on Wednesday morning, July 22.

On Friday, July 24, authorities identified all the fatalities:

  • Pharmacy student Nemia Pacenio, 19, of Silay City
  • Conductor Rhonie Javarro, 23, of Victorias City
  • Nacio Cañete, 55, of Victorias City
  • Ronnel Anciano, 22, of Victorias City

They succumbed to multiple body injuries.

Senior Inspector Conrado Rances earlier announced that 6 people died on the spot but later corrected the figure, saying that two of them showed signs of life and were rushed to the hospital, along with the 46 other injured passengers.

Rances said that Leo Ciocon, driver of Ceres Bus 5126 bound for Escalante City from Bacolod City, executed an overtake on the right side of a vehicle he was tailing. He did not have enough space to completely overtake the other vehicle, prompting him to return to his lane but he lost control of the wheels.

An incoming Ceres Bus 5169 bound for Bacolod City from Victorias City rammed against Ceres Bus 5126.

The driver of Ceres Bus 5126 is now in police custody while the driver of the other bus was invited for questioning.

Rances said that authorities are further investigating the incident.

In a press statement, Vallacar Transit Incorporated expressed “great sadness…upon hearing the incident involving our two units that claimed the lives of the 4 victims.”

The company said it will “conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure the public that those who are remiss from their duties will be dealt accordingly.” It said it is closely coordinating with the municipal police for this.

It also promised to extend immediate assistance to the families of those who died and were injured.

“It is a very emotional time for the families of the victims. Our thoughts and prayers to the families, friends and everyone affected by this incident,” Vallacar Transit said.  Rappler.com
