NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will conduct an investigation into the collision of the two passenger buses, which claimed the lives of 4 people and injured 46 others in EB Magalona town Wednesday, July 22.
This was disclosed by LTFRB Region VI Director Romulo Bernardes, who said that a show cause order will be issued on Thursday, July 23, to the Vallacar Transit Incorporated, which owned the two buses.
“We will direct them to explain the accident. From there, we will determine if we will issue a 30-day preventive suspension,” said Bernardes, who was going around the province Wednesday to inspect terminals and units.
He said they already have the police report and they would start the investigation “immediately.”
He said that the two buses have complete registration and permits.
He also said that the management should enjoin their drivers to drive carefully because “it’s the basic right of the passenger” to be safe.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr said that the drivers should be subject to disciplinary action because some of them are reckless and are driving fast.
Meanwhile, in a press statement, Vallacar Transit said it will “conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure the public that those who are remiss from their duties will be dealt accordingly.”
It said it is closely coordinating with the municipal police for this.
The company also promised to extend immediate assistance to the families of those who died and were injured. – Rappler.com
