The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the Philippines is doing an online survey to see whether overseas Filipino workers OFWs welcome the idea of registering as absentee voters in malls in their host countries. OFWs have long complained about the difficulty of registering at embassies and consulates because it was being done during weekdays, when they couldn’t leave their workplace. “Filipinos like to go to malls and like to converge in malls. So we would like to take advantage of that,” said Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista. In the Philippines, the poll body has tapped malls for election services.
