The group of Iglesia ni Cristo members also argues with the police, who asked them to clear the area following complaints from 'concerned citizens'

MANILA, Philippines – After staging a prayer vigil and protest, supporters of Angel and Tenny Manalo were finally allowed inside the compound where the estranged kin of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) leader had been holing up for days.

Past 5 pm on Sunday, July 26, around 30 supporters entered the INC compound in Tandang Sora, Quezon City. (Watch the video clips below.)

Wearing scarves and sunglasses to hide their identities, they earlier held a prayer vigil outside the Manalo residence. They vowed to protect the family from threats allegedly made against them.

In a protest, they also denounced the alleged persecution of the family supposedly orchestrated by the Sanggunian (Council) of the INC.

On Wednesday, the mother and brother of INC leader Eduardo Manalo appeared in a YouTube video, where they appealed for help from their brethren because their lives were supposedly in danger.

Heeding their call, the Manalos’ followers skipped the anniversary event of the influential church. They chose to hold vigil outside 36 Tandang Sora instead.

Earlier, former INC minister Roel Rosal said the group only wanted to protect the Manalo family and make sure that they won’t be forced out of the house.

The group had a brief argument with police Sunday afternoon, after they were asked to clear the area. Police cited complaints from “concerned citizens.”

Police senior inspector Jun Fortunato said they only asked the group not to block the street and were tasked to monitor the area for “peace and order.”

Around 5 pm, Rosal said the group is prepared to stay overnight at the Manalo residence if needed. – video by Franz Lopez/Rappler.com
