Police reportedly even ask supporters of Angel Manalo, brother of Iglesia ni Cristo head Eduardo Manalo, to reveal their names 'for their protection'

MANILA, Philippines – Police guarding the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) compound in Quezon City have allegedly blocked the delivery of food and supplies to Angel Manalo, brother of INC head Eduardo Manalo.

Former INC minister Roel Rosal, who was expelled for exposing the alleged corruption in the INC, made this claim on Tuesday, July 28.

Rosal said police tried to turn away INC members who wanted to deliver food and supplies to Angel.

Danica Rosales (not her real name) also told Rappler that around 4 pm on Monday, July 27, police approached several supporters of Angel. The cops reportedly requested them to reveal their names “for their protection.”

“The atmosphere was very intimidating,” she said.

Police Senior Inspector Jun Fortunato denied Rosal’s accusations of harassment. Fortunato said police were deployed in the area “to provide security.”

CHR inspecting

Meanwhile, investigators from the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) also arrived at the INC compound to check the alleged blocking of food deliveries.

He said that the Sanggunian, the council of ministers advising his elder brother, was behind the alleged plot. Angel also slammed corruption within the group, blaming the Sanggunian for manipulating his brother.

In a YouTube video released last week, Angel and his mother Tenny appealed for help and support from their brethren.

Their video prompted other ministers, such as Isaias Samson Jr, to expose the supposed corruption in the INC, thrusting the church in its worst crisis. (READ: Expelled INC minister: Don’t cover up wrongdoing)

On Sunday, some 30 followers responded to their call, holding a prayer vigil and protest outside 36 Tandang Sora and later entering the compound. – Rappler.com
