
During a visit to South Africa, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says it’s time to start planning for “the day after” the fall of the Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad. “The intensity of the fighting in Aleppo, the defections, really point out how imperative it is that we come together and work toward a good transition plan,” said Clinton in order to prevent sectarian violence in Syria. She’s scheduled to hold emergency talks on Syria this weekend. She declined to guess when Assad would fall. Syrian troops claim they are winning back Aleppo, but Clinton said the opposition is becoming “increasingly organized and effective.”
