After being down since July 3, BIR said 'technical issues encountered in the Electronic Registration (eREG) System, have been resolved.'

MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Internal Revenue will resume on Monday, August 10, its online service for application of Taxpayers Identification Number (TIN).

In a memorandum dated August 7, Deputy Commissioner Lilia C. Guillermo said “technical issues encountered in the Electronic Registration (eREG) System, have been resolved.” The eREG System has been down since July 3.

“As such the eREG System will be accessible beginning August 10, 2015 at 8:00 am. All eREG users can resume online TlN application. Revenue District Offices will no longer manually issue TINs,” said the BIR in its website.

The eRegistration System, as described in the BIR’s website, is a web application of various taxpayer registration services including TIN Issuance, Payment of Registration Fee, and Generation of Certificate of Registration.

BIR Commissioner Kim Henares earlier said the agency plans to shift from TIN cards made of cardboard to identification cards printed on smart cards by 2016.

In a report by BusinessWorld on May 21, Henares said the planned digital TIN cards would contain a person’s biometrics and would allow flexibility so it can be used for other purposes.  – Rappler.com
