Team Philippines is officially out of the Olympics after its final bet, BMX cyclist Daniel Caluag failed to advance August 9. Caluag was eliminated from the quarterfinals of the BMX men’s event after he finished last in his heat with 29 points. The Fil-Am biker was the last of the 11 athletes to compete for Team Philippines, the smallest delegation the country has sent since 1936. This is the 4th straight Olympics that the Philippines has failed to bring home a medal of any color. Boxer Onyok Velasco was the last to win a medal for the country when he brought home the silver medal from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics for men’s light flyweight boxing.
