CAGAYAN, Philippines – Sixty-three passengers are stranded in two ports in Cagayan province following the cancellation of passenger boat trips going to Calayan Island and to the coastal towns of Dinapigue, Palanan, Divilacan, and Macunacun in Isabela province on Thursday, August 20.
Lieutenant Colonel Erwin Macario of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Aparri told Rappler that 46 passengers at the port of Aparri and 17 passengers at the port of San Vicente in Santa Ana town are stranded due to Typhoon Ineng (international name: Goni).
Both ports are under storm warning signals as of the 11 pm weather advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Macario said as of 7 pm Thursday, the seas of the coastal towns of Cagayan – which include Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Buguey, Aparri, Claveria, Ballesteros, Sanchez Mira, Babuyan and Calayan Islands and Palaui Island – were suffering from rough to very rough sea currents.
PAGASA earlier warned the said places of possible storm surges.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council in Cagayan reported about 200 inviduals or 70 families being evacuated in Gonzaga town.
In Batanes, Police Superintendent Edgardo Pamittan, provincial police chief, said they were closely monitoring the path of the typhoon.
In Isabela, the “no-sail policy” and liquor ban have been imposed in preparation for the typhoon. – Rappler.com
