NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines – An elderly woman was killed while her 3 relatives, including a minor, were injured when their house was strafed by unidentified people in Himamaylan City Thursday night, August 27.
The family, members of the Iglesia ni Cristo, had just arrived from attending a church service and were having dinner when a gunfire erupted from the back portion of their nipa house Sitio Bingig, Barangay 3, at around 9 pm.
Around that time in Manila, INC members were in the news as they massed in front of the Department of Justice building to demand that the agency stop its probe into an illegal detention complaint against INC ministers.
Superintendent Antonietto Cañete, city police chief, identified the fatality as 61-year-old Jovita Jocson. Those injured were her husband, 62-year-old Conrado; 20-year-old son, Joefrey; and their 13-year-old grandchild.
Cañete said that the elderly victim died on the spot after she sustained a gunshot wound on the head.
Conrado, on the other hand, sustained gunshot wounds on his left thigh and left foot. Joefrey was hit on his left thigh, while the 13-year-old girl was shot on her left arm and the back portion of her head.
The victims are now confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.
Investigators recovered 17 empty shells of M16 rifle from the crime scene.
Witnesses claimed that the victims were farmers and they have no known enemies in the area.
Cañete said that they have yet to establish the motive of the incident and the identity of the suspects. – Rappler.com
