MANILA, Philippines – Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) members massed for 5 days to protest the government’s investigation of an illegal detention case filed against some of the group’s top leaders.

It’s a move that they say is a violation of the constitutional provision on the separation of the church and the state.

DOJ’s preliminary investigation on the complaint has yet to begin when the church started mobilizing its flock for the mass demonstration that clogged Manila’s main thoroughfare.

Prosecutor General Claro Arellano said it has yet to be assigned to a prosecutor who will conduct the preliminary investigation hearings.

If the prosecutor finds probable cause, the prosecutor will recommend the filing of the case in court.
