MANILA, Philippines – In this week’s edition of #TalkThursday, Rappler talks to Democratic Socialist Women of the Philippines (DSWP) chairperson and RH Bill advocate Elizabeth Angsioco.
DSWP is a national federation of 157 accredited grassroots, community, & sector-based women’s organizations. It’s around 40,000 members were drawn from marginalized sectors of Philippine society namely: peasants, fisherfolk, workers in both formal & informal sectors, urban poor, youth & students, Muslim women and indigenous peoples.
DSWP follows a comprehensive and integrated rights-based framework towards women’s empowerment and implements interfacing programs to address violence against women (VAW), economic marginalization, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and issues related to political participation.
Angsioco and her group strongly campaigns for the passage of House Bill No. 4244 or the Reproductive Health Bill.
Reacting to Senator Tito Sotto’s speech against the Bill, Angsioco said the money from international groups are used to help Filipino women through information campaigns and RH kits.
Speaking in Filipino she added, “If he wants to save women’s lives, because he said earlier he doesn’t want anybody to die then the government should release funds to save the women.”
