Two workers are brought to a nearby hospital for treatment

BORACAY, Philippines – A construction worker was killed while two other workers were rescued Wednesday morning, September 23, following a landslide in Boracay Island triggered by rain.

Rene Granito Daclis, 28, native of Parañaque City who was temporarily staying at Sitio Hagdan in Barangay Yapak, was confirmed dead.

Two workers identified as 31-year old Rafael Masaglang from Davao City and Jose Manuel Dilanco, 23, from Binangonan, Rizal, survived the mishap but were injured. They were brought to a hospital in Kalibo, Aklan, for treatment.

The 3 were working in a construction site of Datem Inc. in Barangay Yapak when the soil eroded, trapping them.

In a statement, the construction company said that “due to the inclement weather, Datem Inc. assigned some of its engineers and workers to conduct standard inspections of the excavation site at the project development in Barangay Yapak, Malay, Aklan.” – Boy Ryan Zabal/Rappler.com
