MMDA to implement modified truck ban for APEC summit

MANILA, Philippines – A temporary modified truck ban scheme will be implemented from November 17 to 20 to give way to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Manila.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said trucks will not be allowed to traverse metro roads along the south route from 6 am to 10 pm on the 4 days of the summit.

MMDA officer-in-charge Emerson Carlos said the modified truck ban scheme will complement the closure of lanes along Roxas Boulevard during the summit. (READ: Lanes on EDSA, Roxas Blvd to be reserved for APEC delegates)

“This will assure the efficient mobility of the APEC delegates in our major thoroughfares, especially in Manila, Pasay and Makati areas, where the summit’s major events will take place,” Carlos said.

Affected trucks may use this route:

• From South Luzon Expressway / Cavite Area to Port Area (and vice versa)
• From Port of Manila Straight to R10, right at C3, left at A. Bonifacio Avenue, take right turning flyover toward Quirino highway, right at Mindanao Avenue, left at Congressional Avenue, right at Luzon Avenue, straight to Katipunan/C5 to SLEX to destination and vice versa.

The regular truck ban hours of 6 am to 10 am, and 5 pm to 10 pm, will be reinstated after the summit.

The Philippines will be hosting the leader’s summit from November 18-19, with some 21 heads of state and their security detail expected to attend. – Rappler.com
