Makati lifts number coding on October 30
311 personnel from the Makati Public Safety Department, along with 200 policemen, will be deployed to beef up security in the Manila South Cemetery and its surrounding areas from October 31 to November 2

MANILA, Philippines – Acting Makati mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña Jr announced the lifting of the number coding scheme in the city on Friday, October 30, in anticipation of the undas weekend.

Peña, in a statement on Thursday, October 29, also said that 311 personnel from the Makati Public Safety Department, along with 200 policemen, will be deployed to beef up security in the Manila South Cemetery and its surrounding areas from Saturday, October 31 to Monday, November 2, as thousands of people are expected to flock to cemeteries to visit departed loved ones.

Makati’s Department of Environmental Services will also deploy 754 personnel to conduct clean-up operations and enforce the city’s anti-littering ordinance and plastic ban.

Meanwhile, the Makati Action Center will allot 20 wheelchairs for the use of the elderly and the physically challenged who will visit th Manila South Cemetery.

Peña advised patrol vans and media vehicles to park inside the cemetery because of the ongoing road repair work along South Avenue.

Added security

Several police assistance posts will be placed in areas inside the Manila South Cemetery to help secure the premises and to monitor visitors who will be bringing prohibited items, including firearms, bladed weapons, liquor, and loudspeakers or amplifiers.

The Makati Rescue and Fire Department will set-up a station along South Avenue near the cemetery’s entrance.

Personnel from surrounding barangays are expected to put up their respective stations near the cemetery as well.

The Makati Rescue also plans to use a drone to aid deployed personnel in keeping the cemetery safe and secure.

“In addition to the usual security measures implemented in the past years, we are going to use a drone to provide our peacekeepers a clear overhead view of various parts of the cemetery. Unlike foot and bike patrols, a remote controlled drone will be able to conduct reconnaissance discreetly and without close physical contact with the throngs of people expected to arrive,” Peña said

The following streets will also be closed to traffic starting midnight on October 31 until the midnight on November 2:

  • Kalayaan Avenue (from Zapote Street to F Zobel Street)

  • Vito Cruz Extension (from South Avenue to Zapote Street)
  • Nicanor Garcia Street (from Jupiter Street to JP Rizal Street)
