Korean kidnap victim found dead in Sulu
The body of Nwi Seong Hong, 70, was found by a concerned citizen at the vicinity of Sulu State College in Patikul, Sulu late Saturday

MANILA, Philippines – The body of a Korean national kidnapped by suspected Abu Sayyaf members last January was found in Patikul, Sulu, on Saturday night, October 31, more than 9 months since the abduction.

The body of Nwi Seong Hong, 70, was found at the vicinity of Sulu State College in Barangay Bangkal, Patikul, Sulu, around 10:30 pm on Saturday.

Investigators said the victim died due to severe illness while being held by his abductors in the municipality of Indanan. Hong’s body was then left near the school after his death.

The 70-year-old Korean national and his son were abducted by unidentified armed men in Barangay Poblacion in Zamboanga Sibugay province last January 24.

Hong’s son, however, fought back and was able to escape.

According to the military, Hong’s abductors were Indanan-based members of the Abu Sayyaf group, led by sub-leaders Isang Susukan and Anga Adji.

Agence France-Presse reports that details of his confinement and efforts to free him were kept quiet to avoid endangering the hostage.

His body had been transferred to the southern city of Zamboanga and would be flown to Manila, the authorities said. – Rappler.com
