‘Clan wars’ in Aklan leaves 1 injured
The shooting happened a month after the settlement dialogues between the Asiong and Inggo families were held on September 29

AKLAN, Philippines  –  An ongoing rido or family feud in a remote village in Libacao, Aklan province left one person “seriously injured,” after a shooting incident early morning of Friday, October 30.

Senior Police Officer 2 Reynold Galicia said 43-year old Edito “Olong” Inggo was outside his house at Sitio Sal-i in Baranggay Loctuga at around 5 am when he was shot by unidentified armed men.

Galicia said Inggo was rushed to Aklan provincial hospital in Kalibo for treatment of gunshot wounds in his arms, shoulder, and body.

Libacao vice mayor Charito Navarosa said the local police are investigating the incident. The shooting happened a month after the settlement dialogues between the Asiong and Inggo families were held on September 29.

The settlement meeting was attended by elders of the warring families and several local officials, such as Aklan acting police director Senior Superintendent Iver Apellido, then 12th Infantry Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Reyes, and Libacao mayor Vincent Navarosa.

While the investigation is still ongoing, police assigned at Community Police Assistance Center (COMPAC) in Loctuga and the military are on alert for possible clan clash.

The presence of local police and civilian military forces in Loctuga, Galicia said, help diffuse tension among members of warring Inggo, Idala, Baet and Asiong families.

‘Appeal’

Galicia has appealed to the warring clans to respect the truce pact to prevent further confrontation and bloodshed.

Edito is the brother of Anacleto Inggo, who was shot and killed by unidentified suspects in the same barangay last July.

Last June, a barangay kagawad was killed while another person was injured in a shooting incident.
