MANILA, Philippines – The prosecution said it will summon 2 Supreme Court justices, the Court administrator, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, and 15 others to the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
In a press statement on Friday, January 27, the prosecution said that they will be summoning SC Associate Justices Maria Lourdes Sereno and Presbitero Velasco Jr to testify on the issuance by the High Tribunal of a temporary restraining order (TRO) on Nov. 15, 2011, which lifted the government’s travel ban on the Arroyos.
Also called to testify are De lima, Court Administrator Midas Marquez (as a hostile witness), Clerk of Court Enriqueta Vidal, and her deputy at the Clerk of Court.
The total of 19 witnesses will be asked to testify on Article 7 of the Articles of Impeachment filed by the House of Representatives against Corona, which accused the Chief Justice of partiality toward Mrs Arroyo in the case of the TRO issued in her favor.
The rest in the list of witnesses are: Dr. Juliet Gopez-Cervantes and Dr. Mario Ver, doctors of Mrs Arroyo; the SC process server; the SC process cashier; journalists Marites Vitug, Criselda Yabes, Raissa Robles, and Ina Reformina; the assigned sheriff who served the TRO; Araceli Bayuga, SC Chief Judicial Officer; “Juliet” of the Office of the Clerk of Court; Jay Francis P.
