The Aquino administration denied it is using government resources to support the impeachment trial's prosecution panel in the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona

MANILA, Philippines – The Aquino administration denied it is using government resources to support the impeachment trial’s prosecution panel in the impeachment trial  of Chief Justice Renato Corona.

In an interview on Sunday, January 29, Presidential Deputy Spokesperson Abigail Valte said the participation of some government officials in the trial is in compliance with the subpoenas issued to them and not part on an all-out efforts to oust the chief justice.

“Let’s remember that all members of the Executive that (were) called to testify went there based on the subpoenas issued to them… That is not voluntary,” Valte said.

An official from the Register of Deeds, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Kim Henares and Malacanang Records Office Director Marianito Dimaandal all testified during the second week of the impeachment trial.

“It is a courtesy and as a sign of respect that we extend to the impeachment court,” Valte added.
