United States President Barack Obama called for an end to “further reclamation, new construction, and militarization of disputed areas” in the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea). Obama made the call for these “tangible steps” following a two-day summit with Southeast Asian leaders in California. China’s actions in the disputed waters were high on the agenda of the talks, which were attended by Philippine President Benigno Aquino III.
