MANILA, Philippines – The House of Representatives on Wednesday, September 12, posthumously awarded the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo with the Congressional Medal of Achievement.

The award, presented to Robredo’s widow, Atty. Leni Robredo, honors “political, economic, and cultural leaders who have distinguished themselves through their life work and their vision.” Atty. Robredo was accompanied by their youngest daughter, Jillian.

The House, through House Resolution 280, cited the late DILG chief for his “immeasurable contributions in promoting good governance and practicing the tenets of a real democratic and participatory government.”

“Robredo is regarded as a pillar of good governance, introducing participatory democracy, enabling breakthrough improvements in local governance,” the resolution added.

Robredo died in a plane crash off Masbate last August 18.

Aside from the late secretary, Sarangani Rep Manny Pacquiao was also given the same award by the current Congress. – Rappler.com
