Road closures in Manila on March 28 for Erap proclamation rally

MANILA, Philippines – Several roads will be closed in the city of Manila on Monday, March 28, for the proclamation rally of Mayor Joseph Estrada and his ticket.

Estrada is set to hold his proclamation rally starting 1 pm at Liwasang Bonifacio, with an estimated 40,000 people expected to attend, according to a statement released by the mayor’s camp.

The following roads will be closed starting 3 pm:

• MacArthur Bridge (southbound) from Plaza Sta. Cruz to Magallanes Drive Extension
• Both lanes of Magallanes Drive Extension from Postal Road to P. Burgos Avenue
• Muello Del Rio (Riverside Drive) from P. Burgos Avenue to A. Soriano Avenue
• Quezon Boulevard and A. Mendoza St (southbound) from Fugoso St to P. Burgos Ave. fronting Liwasang Bonifacio
• España Boulevard (westbound) from P. Campa St to Quezon Boulevard

A rerouting scheme will also be implemented for affected vehicles:

• All vehicles coming from Rizal Ave. intending to utilize the southbound lane of McArthur Bridge: Go straight to Dasmarinas St, to point of destination
• All vehicles coming from Escolta St, intending to utilize the southbound lane of McArthur Bridge: Turn left to Plaza Sta. Cruz to point of destination
• All vehicles coming from Jones flyover going to Liwasang Bonifacio: Go straight to Jones Bridge to point of destination
• All vehicles coming A. Soriano: Take U-turn going to Anda Circle to their point of destination
• All vehicles intending to utilize Quezon Blvd coming from A. Mendoza St. (Andalucia): Turn right to Fugoso St. to point of destination
• All vehicles coming from Quezon City using the stretch of España: Turn right to P. Campa , left to A. Mendoza St.(Andalucia), right to Fugoso, to point of destination
• All public utility jeeps/light vehicles coming from España intending to proceed to South Pier Zone: Turn left to Nicanor Reyes then turn right or left to CM. Recto to point of destination

Four areas near Liwasang Bonifacio will be designated as parking spaces:

• The multimodal parking area beside the Quezon Bridge
• Stretch of Magallanes Drive from Bureau of Immigration to P. Burgos
• Stretch of Victoria St
• Back of Bonifacio Shrine

Superintendent. Olivia Sagaysay, chief of the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Manila Police District, said policemen and barangay watchmen will be deployed to man traffic and assist motorists along the alternate routes. – Rappler.com
