Former President Estrada says Trillanes is an ingrate, arrogant and 'out of his mind'

MANILA, Philippines – Former President Joseph Estrada came out swinging against Sen Antonio Trillanes IV.

A day after Trillanes’ word war with Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Estrada blasted Trillanes as arrogant, an ingrate, and “out of his mind.”

Estrada is a close ally and partymate of Enrile in the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).

Lumaki ‘yung ulo nang wala sa lugar. Buti nagkakasya pa sa elevator ‘yung ulo niya,” Estrada said in a phone interview with Senate reporters. (His head got so big. It’s a good thing it can still fit in the elevator.)

The former President said he regretted supporting Trillanes in his 2007 senatorial bid under the Genuine Opposition. Trillanes ran for senator while in detention for plotting coups against the Arroyo administration.

“Yes, that’s one of my biggest mistakes, supporting that kind of [man]. Para suportahan ko iyang ganyang klaseng tao (for me to support that kind of person), I really regret supporting him,” Estrada said.

‘Fame got to his head’

Estrada said fame must have gotten to Trillanes’ head.

“Sumikat lang siya, pati itong mga respectable people like Secretary of Foreign Affairs [Albert] del Rosario, he besmirched his name. He is very much respected. Para sumikat lang siya, itong mga taong respetadong-respetado eh sinisira niya?” (He just got famous and now he is besmirching the name of respectable people like Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert del Rosario. Just to get famous, he is already destroying these people?)

Estrada added, “This guy is out of his mind.”

He added: “Meron na ba siyang nagawa?” (Has he done anything?)

Estrada also criticized Trillanes for switching parties. After running under the Genuine Opposition in 2007, Trillanes took his oath as a Nacionalista Party (NP) member earlier this year.

He also attacked Trillanes for aligning with the Aquino administration. “He jumped from one party to another. Kasi ang Liberal nasa pwesto ngayon kaya sumama siya diyan.” (Because the Liberal is the one in power that’s why he joined them.)

Estrada said Trillanes had the gall to call Del Rosario and Enrile names.

“He’s not even respected by his fellow soldiers akalain mo (imagine that). I have talked to many military officials and they don’t like him.”

Trillanes clashed with Enrile on Wednesday over China and the division of Camarines Sur. Trillanes accused Enrile of gerrymandering and being a lackey of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Enrile in turn said Trillanes was working in favor of China in backdoor negotiations over the Scarborough Shoal. He said Trillanes badmouthed del Rosario and accused the Secretary of treason. – Rappler.com
