MANILA, Philippines (4th UPDATE) – A fire broke out in Quiapo, Manila, on Saturday night, April 9.

It took place at a residential area in Globo de Oro Street near the Golden Mosque compound, reported Senior Fire Officer (SFO) 4 John Joseph Jalique of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Manila Fire District.

Jalique said that an estimated 100 houses and structures were razed by the fire, while around 200 families were affected. Damage to properties was pegged at around P2 million, he added.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, said Jalique.

Fire out was declared at 10:49 pm, according to SFO1 Hoover Moral of the BFP-National Capital Region. The blaze, which reached the 5th alarm at 6:25 pm, was declared under control at 8:06 pm.

Moral said that the fire started around 6 pm, and quickly intensified. DZBB tweeted that the fire struck some houses at Globo de Oro corner Gunao streets.

Just last month, on March 1, a fire also broke out in the Quiapo area, at a residential and commercial area in Arlegui Street. – Rappler.com
