Leni Robredo appointed LP chair in CamSur

MANILA, Philippines – Despite having no political plans in 2013, the widow of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo has taken over the leadership of Liberal Party (LP) in Camarines Sur.

Lawyer Maria Leonor Robredo has been appointed to lead the party in the province, a position that was left vacant by her late husband. Her role as provincial party chair will be to seek out candidates for local electives posts in the province in the May 2013 mid-term polls.

It was reported that she has decided to postpone her plan to enter the judiciary until after the elections. The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) shortlisted Robredo for 3 separate vacant positions for Regional Trial Court judge: Calabanga and Pili in Camarines Sur and Ligao City, Albay.

A low-profile political wife, Robredo entered national consciousness following the death of her husband on August 18. Aquino praised the widow and her three daughters for the strength they showed throughout the ordeal.

There have been calls for Robredo to enter politics and even run in the 2013 senatorial elections after the outpouring of grief for her husband. But Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad, a close friend of the late Robredo, said Robredo does not intend to join politics. – Rappler.com
