COTABATO CITY, Philippines – A senior Muslim rebel leader died of heart attack Tuesday, September 25.
Musanip Sulaiman, known as commander Adan, commander of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s (MILF) 106th Base Command, passed away Tuesday afternoon at Tomondong Hospital in Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat where he was rushed by his relatives after he suffered a heart attack.
Adan is relative of Andal Ampatuan Sr, former governor of Maguindanao who is in jail for allegedly ordering the killing of 58 civilians in the infamous Nov 23, 2009 Maguindanao massacre.
“He is a great loss to our organization. He is a good leader and well respected by his men,” Ghadzali Jaafar, vice chair for the MILF, said Wednesday, September 26.
Jaafar said Adan, who was with them for more than 40 years, was buried in his hometown in Datu Abdullah Sangki, Maguindanao.
Col Prudencio Asto, spokesman for the miltary’s 6th Division, extended the military’s condolences to the family.
“He is our strong partner on the ground in implementing the ceasefire agreement,” Asto said.
In 2007, Adan was injured in an ambush in Sultan Kudarat. – Rappler.com
