DOJ files drug charges vs 2 Taiwanese, NCR cop and family

MANILA, Philippines – In two separate resolutions, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed criminal charges against two Taiwanese nationals, as well as a Manila policeman and his wife and nephew, for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Taiwanese Tseng Shien Ming and Hiang Zheng Kai was charged last week for violation of Section 5 (transportation of dangerous drugs) and Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) of Republic Act 9165 before the Regional Trial Court of Parañaque.

They were caught with more than 38 kilos of shabu during a raid along Macapagal Boulevard on June 14. Authorities acted an information provided by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine National Police-Anti Illegal Drugs Group.

“Considering that respondents were caught in the act of transporting shabu with a total net weight of 38,594.1 grams to an undetermined place in Cavite, there is more than probable cause to warrant their indictment,” the justice department’s resolution said.

In approving the resolution, Prosecutor General Claro Arellano did not recommend bail.

Cop, wife, nephew

The DOJ also filed drug charges against Police Office 2 Jolly Aliangan of the National Capital Region Police Office’s anti-illegal drug unit. 

On May 25, during a raid by the National Bureau of Investigation on his residence on Palawan Street in Sampaloc, Manila, he was caught with more than 200 grams of shabu.

Operatives also confiscated marijuana, drug paraphernalia, live ammunition, and P6.9 million in cash.

The justice department also charged before the Manila RTC Aliangan’s wife Ronalie and nephew Jeffrey Gutierrez.

“The 3 respondents were all arrested because the search yielded illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, and unlicensed firearms,” the DOJ resolution said.

The DOJ dismissed the suspects’ claim that the NBI only planted evidence against them to extort money. It also said there was not enough evidence that the 3 had unlicensed firearms. – Rappler.com
