The guests at President Rodrigo Duterte's first SONA will be served a Filipino-inspired merienda buffet

MANILA, Philippines – Hundreds are expected to witness firsthand President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 25. 

Top politicians like Vice President Leni Robredo, members of the diplomatic corps, and even former presidents were among the 3,000 people invited to attend the event at the Batasang Pambansa. (READ: SONA guests asked not to wear long dresses)

The House of Representatives’ SONA task force is serving a merienda buffet for the guests after Duterte delivers his speech at 4 pm. (READ: Duterte’s 1st SONA: What we know about the awaited speech)

The Filipino-inspired menu will be served at the Batasang Pambansa’s South Wing lobby at 5 pm.

Native chips with salted duck egg dressing; chicken skin crackling

Pandesal with white kesong puti and beef steak; penne with taba ng talangka sauce

Sotong goreng; balut pate in profiteroles

Monggo soup, smoked fish with alugbati; crispy triangles of flaked chicken adobo and mushrooms/fried lumpia ubod
