Lapu-Lapu City traffic chief shot
(UPDATED) Frank Brazil, head of traffic management for Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu, has been transferred to the University of Cebu Medical Center and is in stable condition

CEBU, Philippines (UPDATED) – The traffic chief of Lapu-Lapu City was shot as he was leaving his office at around 8 pm on Saturday, August 6.

Frank Brazil, head of the City Traffic Management System (CTMS) of Lapu-Lapu City, was rushed to the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital and later transferred to the University of Cebu Medical Center at around 10 pm.

“He was shot in the back as he was leaving the CTMS office,” said Charles Vailoces of Lapu-Lapu’s public information office.

As of 11 pm, Brazil was said to be in stable condition and was expected to survive.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza rushed to the hospital and said she would “get to the bottom of what happened.” She added, “We are asking everyone’s understanding and prayers for Sir Frank at the moment.”

No motive has been established for the attack, but Radaza said it is likely work-related. She referred to the “dismissal of several employees who failed the drug test and the other one is related to colorum vehicles operating in Lapu-Lapu, specifically that in Barangay Basak.”

The international Iron Man triathlon will take place in Lapu-Lapu City on Sunday, August 7. The CTMS is expected to handle traffic as several roads will be closed for the event.

“The show must go on,” Radaza said. “Though it’s our 5th year, we still want to make sure everything is in order. The traffic situation will be handled by Mario Napuli and Andy Berame,” she added. – Rappler.com
