2 bodies found in rescue helicopter crash site in Quezon
CAAP says the helicopter was on a mission to rescue stranded personnel working at the Sumag diversion tunnel in General Nakar when it went missing on August 22

MANILA, Philippines – A search and rescue team was able to reach the site of a helicopter crash in General Nakar, Quezon province, Saturday afternoon, August 27.

In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed that the rescue helicopter that went missing on August 22 was located at 3:30 pm Saturday at the crash site by a search and rescue team.

Two bodies were found onboard, said CAAP. They were identified as Captain Miguel C. Logronio and aircraft mechanic engineer Jay Gregorio.

CAAP identified the rescue helicopter as a “single-engine light helicopter AS350B2 type operated by Macroasia Air Taxi Services with registry number RP-C2688.”

The said helicopter was “on a mission to pick up and rescue the stranded construction and engineering personnel working at the Sumag diversion tunnel” when the accident happened on August 22, added CAAP.

The crash site was first spotted on August 23 by the 505th search and rescue group of the Philippine Air Force. But due to bad weather, CAAP said that a search and rescue team was only able to reach the area Saturday morning.

The search and rescue team “was able to penetrate the crash site [via] a helicopter piloted by Capt. Jojo Consuji who was able to drop two rescuers onsite,” reported the agency.

CAAP then said that civilian and military volunteers such as the 505 Rescue Bustos group, Pureforce Rescue group, Conrad Tomeldan, Jude Estrada, Captain Boy Garucho, Alex Limjuoco, Cavdeal, MWSS, Transcare and the local dumagats likewise helped in locating the missing chopper.

Retrieval and recovery operations will resume Sunday morning, CAAP said. – Rappler.com
