MANILA, Philippines – The aftermath of a disaster is always a test of one’s faith and character. For many Filipinos, who have accepted that natural disasters are part of life in this archipelago, faith is what keeps them going despite the hardships.
On Friday, September 2, Maria Ressa talks to Fr. Edu Gariguez, the Executive Secretary of Caritas Philippines, on why faith and resilience go hand in hand.
Fr. Edu is a religous leader and environmental advocate. In 2012, he won the Goldman Environmental Prize for advocating for indigenous communities against large scale mining projects in the Philippines.
Caritas Philippines is a Catholic relief organization that helps the poor and those displaced by natural disasters.
