Duterte to ASEAN, China: ‘Be on side of peace’
'International disputes should inspire us to work together with adherence to the rule of law and international governing bodies,' Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte says

VIENTIANE, Laos – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte in a meeting on Wednesday, September 7, urged “peace” between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China.

Philippine Communications Secretary Martin Andanar recounted Duterte’s statements in a media briefing on Wednesday afternoon.

Andanar quoted Duterte as saying, “Be on the side of peace.”

International disputes should inspire us to work together with adherence to the rule of law and international governing bodies,” Duterte said, according to Andanar.

Duterte made these remarks during the 19th ASEAN Summit to Commemorate the 26th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations on Wednesday.
