MANILA, Philippines – First, an arm injury. Now, President Benigno Aquino III is suffering from a bum stomach, too.

Aquino himself announced that he is feeling under the weather while he is in Australia for a state visit.

In a state dinner in Australia, the President said, “After hearing both speeches, I have wished I had been in more perfect health. The speech that was prepared for this evening seems so wholly inadequate. Unfortunately, this is a question of the spirit wanting and the body not cooperating at this point in time.”

Malacañang, however, said the President is trying to get better.

“Yes, [he is] a bit [sick] but he should be better tomorrow,” said Palace Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang who is with Aquino in Canberra.

Asked if it was a flu, Carandang said, “No. He finished all his duties today.”

Aquino, 52, felt the stomach ache while travelling to Canberra, Australia from Wellington, New Zealand. The President was also seen wearing a hand brace for his arm injury.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda earlier said Aquino’s sore right arm is beginning to heal but he still needed to wear the brace occasionally upon the advice of his doctors.

Lacierda said the injury was not serious but Aquino was having a hard time signing documents and shaking hands while wearing the brace.

The Palace earlier compared the pain to “tennis elbow,” announcing that Aquino first felt it after distributing relief goods during the monsoon rains in August.

Last week, Aquino was unable to grant cameramen’s request for a photo-worthy shot of him shaking hands with chief peace negotiator Marvic Leonen and the rest of the government peace panel, which paid him a courtesy call. Aquino was then wearing the brace.

On Thursday, Aquino is scheduled to meet with Australian businessmen in a forum and Filipinos in Sydney.

He will have to again endure the pain, this time in both arm and stomach. – Rappler.com
