2 village officials killed inside Isabela barangay hall
Police say Makindol village chief Emilio Lazaro and village treasurer Wilson Galapon were preparing for a meeting at the Makindol hall when two unidentified men barged into the room and shot them

CAGAYAN, Philippines – Two village officials in Benito Soliven town, Isabela province, were killed by unknown assailants on Sunday, October 9.

Police identified the victims as Makindol village chief Emilio Lazaro, 57, and village treasurer Wilson Galapon, 59.

Police Chief Inspector Jose Torrijos, Benito Soliven police chief, said in a report that  two unidentified men broke into the Makindol village hall and shot the victims who were preparing for a meeting.

Lazaro was proclaimed dead on arrival at a hospital while Galapon died on the spot.

Initial investigations revealed that there were 4 suspects – two who carried out the attack, and two more who waited outside the barangay hall. Each tandem rode on a motorcycle.

A witness told police that the two suspects who shot the victims identified themselves as workers of a bioethanol plant in San Mariano town and complained that Lazaro’s cattle allegedly destroyed their sugarcane plantation.

Torrijos said police eliminated illegal drugs as a possible motive, as the victims are not involved in the drug trade. – Rappler.com
