Misamis cops kill ex-PNP employee in ‘shootout’
Hired by the Northern Mindanao regional police headquarters in 2015, Remy Gumapac Jr was hunted for his alleged drug trafficking activities

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Police on Thursday morning, October 13, killed Misamis Occidental’s 3rd biggest crime target and his driver in an alleged shootout with cops.

Identified as Remy Gumapac Jr, the slain suspected drug dealer also happened to be a former civilian employee of the regional police headquarters as a “computer operator,” police said. Also killed in the alleged shootout was Gumapac’s driver named Arnel.

Police did not give any other details of the incident except to say he was killed while being transferred from the Ozamiz City police office to the Baliangao police station.

Regional police spokesperson Superintendent Surki Sereñas said Gumapac was the son-in-law of former Misamis Occidental Councilor Renato Parojinog, who was killed in Manila in 2002. The Parohinogs have been linked to various criminal activities in Ozamiz.

Sereñas said Gumapac, alias “Waway”, was linked to an organized crime group based in Ozamiz City, the so-called Dragon Francisco gang that’s notorious for robbery, drug trafficking, and extortion.

Sereñas said Gumapac was employed by the PNP in 2015.

He was given fair warning to stop his illegal activities, “but he did not heed our advice,” said Misamis Occidental police provincial director Superintendent Jeysen De Guzman.

After the Thursday killing, Northern Mindanao regional police head Chief Superintendent Noel Constantino congratulated the cops for a “job well done.”

“This only shows that our campaign applies to all regardless of whether we are targeting other people or our own personnel. If they violate the law, they will have to answer for it,” Constantino said. – Rappler.com
