TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – Two drug suspects were killed when authorities raided a shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) laboratory in Cauayan City, Isabela, on Sunday afternoon, October 23. 

Police Superintendent Chevalier Iringan, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Cagayan Valley, identified one of the slain suspects as Kim Punzalan Uy in District 1 in Cauayan City. The other suspect is yet to be identified.

Iringan said the suspects allegedly resisted arrest, resulting in a firefight with the raiding team.

Uy is allegedly a member of the  Ahong Group Drug Syndicate, together with Atong Lee and alias Lo Chi, who went into hiding prior to the raid.

Police recovered during the raid assorted chemicals and laboratory equipment used in the manufacturing of shabu.

Also seized were a .45 caliber pistol with live ammunition, a 9 mm machine pistol, one unit Toyata Hi-lux with plate number ABB 3553, and assorted documents.

The raid was conducted by members of the Philippine National Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Group (PNP-AIDG) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Special Enforcement Service (PDEA-SES), PNP-Cagayan Valley, PNP-Isabela and PNP-Cauayan City.

“This is the result of the government anti-illegal drugs campaign and in the implementation of the project Double barrel of the PNP in Cagayan Valley region,” PNP-Cagayan valley regional Director Police Chief Superintendent Gilbert Sosa said.

PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa also visited the dismantled shabu laboratory early Monday, October 24.
