18 fishermen in Visayas rescued by PCG over the weekend
Fourteen fishermen are rescued on Saturday from two capsized boats, while 4 others are rescued from a stalled boat on Sunday

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), reported on Wednesday, November 9, it rescued 18 fishermen in separate incidents in the Visayas region over the weekend.

Coast Guard Substation Padre Burgos and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) saved 14 fishermen in the vicinity waters of Barangay Cabulihan in Limasawa Island on Saturday. Their two boats were heading to Bontoc, Southern Leyte, when strong winds and waves caused water to enter their boats and forced the boats to capsize.

The Coast Guard said the survivors were all in good physical condition, with medical attention provided by the Municipal Health Office. Their boats, meanwhile, are now under MDRRMO custody.

Another 4 stranded fishermen were rescued from their damaged boat in Antique on Sunday by CGSS Libertad. The PCG identified the fishermen as Nolmer Juanico, Noel Juanico, Jerald Juanico and Eddie Sarancanlao.

The PCG said the 4 fishermen were onboard an unnamed motor boat when members of the seaborne patrol operations team of CGSS Libertad heard them screaming for help. The fishermen were trying to reach Batbatan island to fish, but had engine trouble. Attempts to fix the engine failed, leaving them dead in the water until they were rescued.  – Rappler.com
