Lineman from Leyte dies helping restore Cagayan power
Solana town Senior Police Officer 4 (SPO4) Roque Binayug, in his statement to the Cagayan Electric Cooperative (CAGELCO), says Benito may have touched a live wire connected to a generator in a nearby house

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A lineman from Leyte province died after being electrocuted in a Cagayan town on Friday, November 18.

Jomar Benito, 30, was proclaimed dead on arrival, while his companion Reymund Guilaw is still recovering in a hospital.

Benito and Guilaw are among the more than 80 linemen from Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative who arrived in Cagayan on Wednesday, November 16, to help in the restoration of power in the areas badly hit by super typhoon Lawin (Haima) last month.

Solana town Senior Police Officer 4 (SPO4) Roque Binayug, in his statement to the Cagayan Electric Cooperative (CAGELCO), said Benito may have touched a live wire connected to a generator in a nearby house.

Binayug said Guilaw was hurt after he kicked Benito out of the live wire. Both of them fell off the electric post.

Some parts in Cagayan are yet to have their power restored, a month after Lawin struck.

CAGELCO earlier said they are expecting to fully restore in power in affected areas in more than 2 months, but not later than Christmas. – Rappler.com
