To ease up traffic, government properties in Makati, Pasay, and Bonifacio Global City will soon be opened to private vehicles

MANILA, Philippines – After opening Camp Aguinaldo to private vehicles with passes, the government is aiming to open a total of 6 more state properties to ease traffic in parts of Metro Manila.

In the meantime, the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic, of which the MMDA is part, has successfully negotiated with other government entities to open to private vehicles 3 properties.

These are:

  • Naval station in Bonifacio Global City connecting Lawton and Pasong Tamo extension
  • Office of Transport Security in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport area in Pasay City
  • Barangay property with a “small but very important road” connecting EDSA to Jupiter Street in Makati City

The council is still negotiating for several other government properties to be opened. These include an MMDA property in Roxas Boulevard, and properties of the University of the Philippines, National Power Corporation, and Philippine National Railways.

“We are looking at about 6 more public, government properties to open up,” said Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Thomas Orbos on Friday, November 25, during a Palace news briefing.

The opening of Camp Aguinaldo to private motorists is expected to improve the flow of traffic from the Katipunan and Marikina areas going to EDSA.

Orbos gave assurances that the inter-agency council still plans on opening up roads inside private subdivisions to motorists.

“That’s going to be the last step,” he said.

The inter-agency council still needs emergency powers over traffic from Congress to open up subdivisions.

While awating the powers, the council has reached out to private subdivisions which, Orbos said, have been “very cooperative.” – Rappler.com
