Livestreaming of NAIA CCTVs starts 2017
The Bureau of Customs is set to install 59 CCTVs in the NAIA Customs' arrival area

MANILA, Philippines – Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will be livestreamed starting next year, 2017, according to the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

BOC is set to install 59 CCTVs in the Customs’ arrival area of the country’s main airport to monitor luggages of Terminal 1 passengers.

Footages from these CCTV can be viewed real time at the BOC’s command center in Port Area, Manila, BOC Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon said. Regular citizens may also monitor the livestream on their computers and smartphones via the public IP address 119.92.124.28.

Last September, BOC also started to livestream its office operations, including those in Faeldon’s office. There are currently 94 CCTV units installed in the agency, the Port of Manila, and the Manila International Container Terminal.

The initiative is intended to promote transparency in BOC, notorious for being the most corrupt public office in the country.

Just a few days after the CCTVs were installed, an unidentified employee was caught accepting money inside the office. Initial reports said the employee was male and was from the BOC, but Faeldon found out days later she was a female employee of the Asian Terminal Inc. – Rappler.com
