MANILA, Philippines – Indonesia has donated US$1 million and 4 tons of relief goods to the victims of Typhoon “Pablo,” the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said in a a statement on Monday, December 10.

The donation was personally issued by by Admiral Agus Suhartono, the Chief of the Indonesian National Defense Force, to AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Jessie Dellosa at the Eastern Mindanao Command in Davao City.

The financial aid and the relief packs, which include 1000 units of military blanket, 3,000 packs of ready-to-eat meals, and 50 boxes of instant noodles, were then turned over by the AFP to Liza Mazo, Director of Office of Civil Defense in Region 11. Admiral Suhartono arrived in Davao on Sunday, December 9, for his three-day visit to the Philippines.

“We express our sincerest gratitude to the Indonesian Government for their donation that manifests the strong, vibrant, and deepening relationship between our two countries and our two armed forces. This contribution will surely be a big help to our people who currently need aid and assistance due to the devastation brought by Typhoon Pablo,” Dellosa said.

Even Filipinos abroad have extended help to the country.

In Dubai, the Filipino community has raised roughly P80,000 from their “Brunch for a Cause” campaign to help the typhoon victims, embassy officials said.

Wendell Castro of the Filipino Community in Dubai and Northern Emirates (FilCom DNE) added that at least 30 boxes of in-kind donations from the Filipino community and friends in the UAE will be sent to the Philippines as soon as possible. –
