The UN special rapporteur on summary executions sends her condolences to the family of the slain teenager on the day of his burial

MANILA, Philippines – Agnes Callamard, United Nations (UN) special rapporteur on summary executions, extended her condolences to the bereaved family of Kian delos Santos on Saturday, August 26.

Callamard is hoping Delos Santos’ death would be the “last” in President Rodrigo Duterte’s bloody drug war.

The UN official tweeted her message for the Delos Santos family on Saturday, August 26, the same day the 17-year-old was buried at the La Loma Cemetery. (READ: Groups seek end to drug war killings as Kian delos Santos buried

“My heart-felt condolences to #kian family and to all families victimized by this cruel war. #Makehisdeaththelast #Philippines,” said Callamard.

Delos Santos was killed by cops who conducted a “one-time, big-time” anti-drug raid in his community in Caloocan City on August 16.

The police officers involved in his killing claimed he fired at them first. But based on witnesses’ testimonies and CCTV footage, the Grade 11 student was manhandled, handed a gun, told to run, and shot at by the police.

The incident sparked widespread condemnation, with several protests held calling for justice for Delos Santos. Hundreds joined his funeral march on Saturday before he was laid to rest. (IN PHOTOS: Funeral march for Kian delos Santos)

Apart from Callamard, minority senators Paolo Benigno Aquino IV, Leila de Lima, Franklin Drilon, Risa Hontiveros, Francis Pangilinan, and Antonio Trillanes IV also sent their condolences to the Delos Santos family.

The Senate minority bloc cited the poem titled “Wala Nang Batang Luluha (No Child Will Weep Again)” by Jesuit priest Father Alberto Alejo to convey their sympathy to the family. – Rappler.com
