When asked for his message to Mayor Mabilog, Espenido simply says, 'Regards lang. Kita kits tayo.'

MANILA, Philippines – Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido said on Tuesday, August 29, it was “God’s will” if Iloilo City Mayor Mabilog lives longer.

Speaking to reporters at the Department of Justice in Manila, Espenido said his transfer to Iloilo does not automatically mean Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is in danger of being killed. Mabilog was earlier linked by President Rodrigo Duterte to the illegal drug trade.

He added, “I am pro-life, a professional law enforcer. Those who do no wrong have nothing to fear.”

When asked for his message to Mayor Mabilog, Espenido simply said, “Regards lang. Kita kits tayo. (Regards. See you).”

Espenido said he was a “pro-life” advocate, despite links to the killing of two mayors who were allegedly involved in illegal drug activities in parts of the Philippines.

Espenido previously served as police chief of Albuera, Leyte, where the late mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr was killed.

He was also the police chief in Ozamiz City, where he led efforts to chase after Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog. The mayor, his wife, and 13 others were killed late July during a police operation. Espenido was among the commanders. – Rappler.com
