MANILA, Philippines – Another retired general has joined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). 

President Rodrigo Duterte appointed former Armed Forces vice chief of staff Rodolfo Cadiz Garcia as environment undersecretary, according to documents released by Malacañang on Wednesday, September 6. The papers were signed on Monday, September 4. 

Garcia belongs to Philippine Military Academy Class 1970, the same class as Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, a former Armed Forces chief.

He served as an undersecretary of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), and chaired the government panel negotiating with the Moro Islamic Liberation front during the administration of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. 

He also worked in the private sector as assistant to the president of Fortune Tobacco Corporation, Incorporated.

Garcia is the latest military man to join the Duterte administration.
