Reynaldo de Guzman’s funeral will push through – parents

MANILA, Philippines – The funeral of the boy believed to be Reynaldo “Kulot” de Guzman will push through on Wednesday, September 13, according to Reynaldo’s father, Eddie Gabriel.

This is despite claims that the cadaver they claimed in Gfuneapan, Nueva Ecija, was not their son’s.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that day that it wanted the corpse to be returned to the Gapan City police, after the PNP discovered that the DNA of the boy was not a match with his supposed parents.

On Tuesday night, members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) went to the wake of the boy and asked Eddie to sign papers supposedly to claim the boy’s corpse. ANC reported that the CIDG clarified that it made a request to the family to allow an examination of the boy’s corpse but the family rejected it.

Eddie, however, insisted that it was his son, Kulot, that they had been mourning for almost a week now.

“Kumpleto na papeles niyan [ni Kulot]. Hindi nila puwede kunin yan. Anak ko talaga yan. Anak ko yan,” he said.

Eddie said disputed the DNA test conducted by the PNP, saying it is false and “illegal,” as it was done without their proper consent. He said he could not even remember when the photo of him and his wife Lina giving their buccal swabs – released by the PNP – was taken.

“Oo may picture, pero gulong-gulo ako noon. Hindi ko na nga maalala ‘yon. Ginapang talaga nila kami,” he said.

(Yes, there’s a picture but we were so confused at the time. I can’t even remember that. They really did a job on us.)

He also denied giving a sample of his fingernail to the PNP for DNA testing.

Kulot’s funeral will push through tomorrow in Barracks Cemetery, Pasig City. – Rappler.com
