5 dead, 6 missing due to Tropical Storm Maring
MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Storm Maring (Doksuri), which is already on its way out of the country, left 5 people dead and 6 others missing.
One died in Lucena City, Quezon; two in Taytay, Rizal; one in Pasay City; and one in Silang, Cavite, after Maring hit land as a tropical depression.
The 6 missing persons are all from Laguna, according to National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) spokesperson Mina Marasigan.
There are also 4 injured due to Maring, Marasigan said in a press briefing on Wednesday, September 13.
Based on initial reports gathered by the NDRRMC, 1,857 families fled to 116 evacuation centers. (READ: Maring forces evacuations in Quezon, other parts of Luzon)
"We are still waiting for consolidated reports on evacuees. The evacuees can go back to their homes as the weather continues to improve," said Marasigan in Filipino.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is conducting relief operations for the affected families.
The DSWD allocated a total of P577,772,340.94 as standby funds for those affected by the heavy rain and flooding. – Rappler.com
