'Such an act is an affront to the dignity of the child as a person. It cannot be tolerated and should be sanctioned to the full extent of our laws,' says Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II

MANILA, Philippines – Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Monday, September 18, ordered an investigation into a raid conducted by Caloocan City police who supposedly brought along a minor.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) Task Force on Child Protection and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were told to investigate the cops’ possible liability for child abuse.

On September 7, CCTV footage showed police, with a minor, raiding a 51-year-old woman’s house without a search warrant. The cops were seen picking up items in the house, with the minor appearing to help in the ransacking.

Taken from the house were P30,000 worth of items. A robbery complaint has been filed against the police.

“Such an act is an affront to the dignity of the child as a person. It cannot be tolerated and should be sanctioned to the full extent of our laws,” Aguirre said.

Aguirre ordered the NBI to conduct a case buildup and “if evidence warrants, file appropriate charges.”

Due to back-to-back controversies involving Caloocan City police, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Oscar Albayalde said the entire city police force will be replaced. Metro Manila Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) personnel will temporarily replace them. (READ: Dela Rosa tells Davao policemen to ‘help’ him in Caloocan– Rappler.com
