Teen dies after being hit by PNR train in Manila
Grade 10 student John Genesis Munsayac Jr, who wore a headset, suddenly appeared on the northbound track and did not notice the approaching train, says PNR General Manager Junn Magno

MANILA, Philippines – A grade 10 student died after being being hit by a Philippine National Railways train early Wednesday, September 20.

PNR General Manager Junn Magno said that at around 7:30 am on Wednesday, a northbound train sideswiped John Genesis Munsayac Jr at the Honrades crossing between Firmesa and Sobriedad Street in Barangay 544 Zone 54 before reaching España station in Sampaloc, Manila.

Magno said that based on initial reports, Munsayac, who wore a headset, suddenly appeared on the northbound track and did not notice the approaching train.

The boy, described as 16 to 18 years old, was dragged 150 meters away from the point of impact and was proclaimed dead on the spot.

Munsayac was identified through his Manuel Roxas High School ID.

Magno said the incident was being investigated.

A similar incident happened in August, when another grade 10 student died after being hit by a train at the Vito Cruz PNR tracks. The teenager, who also reportedly wore a headset, crossed the tracks, thinking that the southbound train had passed, and did not hear the northbound train approaching nor frantic calls for him to get off the tracks. – Rappler.com
