MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte’s common-law wife Honeylet Avanceña was spotted in New York City, where she claimed she was attending the United Nations General Assembly.

In an ABS-CBN report, Avanceña can be seen at the showing of Miss Saigon at the Broadway Theater on Tuesday, September 19, the same day the General Debate of UN General Assembly was opened The UNGA is being held from September 12 to 25.

She was asked by reporter Don Tagala if she was in New York for the UN event. She replied, “Oo (yes).”

When they reached the sidewalk, she then said she was “invited” to the high-profile gathering.

She refused to answer questions on who paid for her trip or what exactly her role was in the UN meeting. Her security personnel also tried to block the reporter’s camera.

On the day of the meeting, President Duterte was in Manila. The Philippines was represented by Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano.

Also in New York for the summit was Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.

Malacañang has yet to respond to reporters’ request for comment on the issue. Cayetano has also not replied to Rappler as of writing. – Rappler.com
